A son of Kentucky Derby winner and champion Unbridled, Unbridled’s Song had a brilliant season as a 2-year-old capped by a win in the muddy Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The gray colt trained by Hall of Famer Nick Zito won his debut as the odds-s on favorite at Saratoga at 6 furlongs. He moved up to Grade 1 competition and 1 1/16 miles in the Moet Champagne at Belmont Park. After setting the pace, he was passed in the stretch by eventual 2-Year-Old Champion Maria’s Mon.

A rematch did not develop in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile as Maria’s Mon was sidelined. Running for the first time on a muddy track, Unbridled’s Song, regular rider Mike Smith took the speedy colt back to 6th down the backstretch. They had to wait for room in traffic and then exploded into the stretch to engage Hennessey in a rousing two-horse race to the wire to be victorious by a neck.
