Ajina hailed from the powerhouse breeding operation of Allen Paulson, best known for campaigning the incredibly popular 1995 Breeders’ Classic winner Cigar. She was joined in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff by her accomplished stablemate Escena who went on to win the Distaff the following year. Ajina capped a banner season with a two-length victory in the Distaff while Escena checked in third. With the Distaff and two other top-level triumphs to her credit, Ajina was honored with an Eclipse Award as champion three-year-old filly.
Ajina returned to racing the following season and won the 1998 Pimlico Distaff Handicap before retiring.
