One Dreamer was a filly who was slow to mature, but very fast on the track. She only started once as a 3-year-old, but won four races as a 4-year-old – all of them in wire-to-wire fashion. The following season she won three stakes races – all of them on the turf.
Leading up to the 1994 Distaff, One Dreamer had won three stakes races, though none of them on the national stage. On Breeders’ Cup Day she would face three current and future champions. She had never won at the 1 1/8 mile distance or faced such competition – Hollywood Wildcat was the Champion 3-year-old filly 0f 1993; Heavenly Prize would be crowned the top 3-year-year-old filly of the season and Sky Beauty would be crowned as the top Older Female. Jockey Gary Stevens put One Dreamer on the lead and they never looked back in a thriller over Heavenly Prize, and at a win price of $96.20.
