Despite a distinct disadvantage starting from the outside gate, jockey Chris McCarron kept Paseana close to the pace in the early running, seized the lead after six furlongs, and never looked back to capture the 1992 Distaff by four lengths. The impressive victory led to an Eclipse Award for Paseana as the best older female in North America. She was already successful in Argentina, when Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally brought her to California in 1991. In December of that year, she began a seven race win streak, the last five Grade 1 events.
Paseana returned to defend her Distaff title in 1993, but fell just a nose short of Hollywood Wildcat. Despite the loss, she was voted a second consecutive Eclipse Award. Paseana retired at age 8 with 19 wins from 36 starts, including 10 Grade 1 victories, a career that earned her a spot in the Hall of Fame.
