Juddmonte Farm’s English-bred and trained 3-year-old filly Midday went to the post a strong second choice in the Filly & Mare Turf based on solid European form for trainer Henry Cecil, and scored by a length over well-regarded American rival Pure Clan. Augustin Stable’s 5-year-old Forever Together rallied in the stretch with too little, too late finishing third in defense of her 2008 Filly & Mare Turf victory at Churchill Downs

A daughter of Oasis Dream bred by Juddmonte owner Prince Khalid Abdullah, Midday had beaten older fillies and mares in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood in August and finished a game third in the Prix de l’Opera on Arc de Triomphe Day at Longchamp in her two starts before the trip to California. After another strong European campaign in 2010, she was back to defend her title in the Filly & Mare Turf at Churchill Downs, but fell a neck short in second following a wild four-horse photo-finish.
