Perfect Sting made amends for her sixth-place finish in the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf the previous year when she charged from the back of the pack to win the 2000 edition at Churchill Downs. The victory capped an outstanding season in which she won five of six starts and wrapped up honors as Eclipse Award winner as champion turf female. She raced for Frank Stronach and was trained by Joe Orseno, who teamed up later in the day to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Macho Uno. Perfect Sting was at her best in 1999 and 2000 when she won a total of eight graded stakes races including the Filly & Mare Turf. She won another graded stakes race as a five-year-old in 2001 before joining Stronach’s broodmare band. Overall she won 14 of 21 starts and banked $2,202,042.
