Johar etched his name in racing lore in several ways in the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park. In finishing on even terms with High Chaparral (IRE), he became a key character in the first-ever dead heat victory in Breeders’ Cup history. He also gave his trainer Richard Mandella a record-tying three-win day in the Breeders’ Cup that later would become an unprecedented four-win day when Pleasantly Perfect took the Breeders’ Cup Classic for the Mandella barn. In his own right, Johar was a standout with victories in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby, Grade 2 Oak Tree Derby, and Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes prior to his Turf tally. Overall he won six of 16 starts, was second or third on another six occasions and earned $1.4-million. His offspring include millionaire Keertana, a close third in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
