In a 21-race career that spanned two continents and four years, Daylami steadily improved until he was honored with the 1999 Eclipse Award as champion turf male after his emphatic triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Gulfstream Park. A stakes winner at two in France, Daylami added the prestigious French Two Thousand Guineas (Group 1) to his resume at three. At four he was a top level winner in England and his native Ireland before winning the Grade 1 Man o’War Stakes in 1998 at Belmont Park in his North American debut. He returned to Europe and won three consecutive Group 1 races in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. As the betting favorite, Daylami drew clear to win by 2 1/2 lengths for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Godolphin Racing and trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
