Singletary

Breeders’ Cup Champion
Jockey:
D. Flores
Trainer:
D. Chatlos Jr.
Owner:
Little Red Feather Racing
Breeder:
Disler Farms Ltd.

All but two of his 22 lifetime starts came at his home base in California, but the biggest of his eight career wins came in Texas, when the 16-to-1 long shot came flying on the outside of horses to capture the Breeders’ Cup Mile by a half length. It was the sixth overall win, third graded stakes win and first Grade 1 for the son of Sultry Song, who was named for Chicago Bears Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary.

Trained by Don Chatlos, who won with his first Breeders’ Cup starter, Singletary was sold for a mere $3,200 as a yearling, and was owned by a 13-member partnership known as Little Red Feather Racing. Singletary raced again in 2005, and won twice more, including the Grade 2 Oak Tree Breeders’ Cup Mile Stakes at Santa Anita.
