Spinning World was born in Kentucky but he launched his racing career in France with a pair of victories as a two-year-old. The next year he won the prestigious Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Group 1) and a top level race in France before returning to North America to finish second in the 1996 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Woodbine. In part because of that performance, his homecoming to his native country for the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Hollywood Park was highly anticipated in 1997. Mirroring the previous year, Spinning World again brought his stellar record in France to the Mile and was the favorite against 11 rivals. Under jockey Cash Asmussen, Spinning World powered to a two-length victory for trainer Jonathan Pease and owner-breeder Flaxman Holdings to equal a Hollywood Park course record time as well as a Breeders’ Cup Mile record.
