Owned by Louis Wolfson’s Harbor View Farm, Outstandingly lived up to her name early in her career winning the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Hollywood Park in 1984 after finishing second by a half-length, but was moved to first upon the disqualification of Fran’s Valentine. It remains the only disqualification of a winner in the 28-year history of the Breeders’ Cup. Developed in New York by Hall of Fame trainer Frank ‘Pancho’ Martin, Outstandingly was a 22-to-1 longshot in the Juvenile Fillies under jockey Walter Guerra.
Outstandingly went on to soundly defeat Fran’s Valentine by 2 3/4 engths in a rematch a month later in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes and was voted Eclipse champion 2-year-old filly for the season. After campaigning back east with mixed success early in her 3-year-old season, Outstandingly spent her last two campaigns in California with trainer Laz Barrera, winning four stakes and finishing third in the 1986 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita behind Lady’s Secret with Fran’s Valentine second.
