Homebreds don't get much better than Untapable. The third generation of her dam's family bred by the Winchell family, the 3-year-old Tapit filly wrapped up a 2014 campaign that began with a win in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes at the Fair Grounds in February and included Grade 1 victories in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in May, the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park in June, and the Cotillion Stakes at Parx in September, with a 1 1/2 length win in the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff as the 3-2 favorite.
In seven starts in 2014, she lost only once, when she finished fifth in the Haskell Invitational Stakes won by eventual 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Bayern.
Trained by Steven Asmussen for the Winchell family, Untapable was ridden to victory in the Distaff by 26-year-old Rosie Napravnik. The leading rider made news of her own when she announced in the winner's circle that she was expecting her first child and would retire from racing following Breeders' Cup weekend.
