Sherry Parbhoo's 3-year-old Trinniberg went from a 17th place finish in the Kentucky Derby to the Eclipse Award winning Male Sprinter of 2012 by way of the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. Trained by the owner's father, Shivananda Parbhoo, Trinniberg rebounded from the Derby defeat by returning to sprint races, winning the Woody Stephens at Belmont Park and losing the Carry Back at Calder by just a half-length in July. He was second in the Gallant Bob at Parx Racing in his final prep for the Xpressbet Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita, and this son of Teufelsberg proved more than ready against 13 rivals.
Jockey Willie Martinez rode Trinniberg with a confident hand, prompting the pace early and then taking command approaching the stretch. Trinniberg held off The Lumber Guy by a half-length. Ten weeks later, he was named Champion Male Sprinter.
