NEW YORK (October 21, 2014) – The Breeders’ Cup has today announced that famed vocalist Ariana Savalas will make her Breeders’ Cup musical debut at the 31st World Championships, taking place Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. The first time the popular singer has performed at the international event, Savalas will take the stage three separate times during the World Championships to perform a variety of songs for attendees.
Savalas will kick-start the races with an anticipated performance of the National Anthem on Friday afternoon during the Opening Ceremonies. Following this, she will again perform for fans during Saturday’s Opening Ceremonies, this time singing “America the Beautiful” in the Winner’s Circle. That same afternoon Savalas will lend her smooth vocals a final time to a performance in the Breeders’ Cup’s exclusive Chandelier Room.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Ariana to our exciting list of artists performing at the World Championships,” says Peter Rotondo, Vice President of Media and Entertainment for the Breeders’ Cup. “With such a wonderful voice and stage presence, we know she’ll add a great dynamic to the entertainment options this year.”
A long-time fan of horseracing and the Breeders’ Cup, Savalas has been attending horse races for years and was introduced to the sport by her father, the legendary film and television actor and singer Telly Savalas. She recently released her debut album Sophisticated Lady, which was received with much acclaim. Savalas has sold out shows across the country and performed in some of the nation’s most popular venues such as Herb Alpert’s Vibrato in Beverly Hills, Feinstein’s, the Friar's Club and Birdland in New York as well as Tiffany & Co.’s annual gala.
“One of my favorite childhood memories is my Papa picking me up from school and taking me to watch the horses at the Santa Anita racetrack,” says singer Ariana Savalas. “Now, nearly 20 years later, I couldn’t be more honored to have the opportunity to perform live at the Breeders' Cup World Championships!”
Savalas’ anticipated performances at the 2014 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will round-out a slew of exciting musical acts taking place throughout the two-day event. Other headliners include legendary rocker Richie Sambora, who will return to do an edgy rendition of the National Anthem, and a special performance by Tony award-winner Kristin Chenoweth of the Breeders’ Cup’s official anthem “The Best is Yet to Come.”
