NEW YORK (October 25, 2014) — The Breeders’ Cup announced today an agreement making 14 Hands Winery an official partner of the Breeders Cup World Championships and the name-in-title sponsor of the $2 million 14 Hands Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships is Thoroughbred racing’s most prestigious international event, consisting of 13 grade one races and purses and awards totaling $26 million. The event takes place October 31-November 1 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., and will be televised on NBC and NBCSN.

The 14 Hands Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, a grade one race for 2-year-old fillies contested at 1 1/16 miles on the main track, will be run on Saturday, November 1. Since its inception in 1984, 26 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winners have been voted Thoroughbred racing’s Eclipse Award Champion 2-year-old filly.

“We are delighted that 14 Hands Winery has joined us as an official partner and the name in title sponsor of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies,” said Craig Fravel, Breeders’ Cup President and CEO. “The high quality and standards of brand excellence exhibited by 14 Hands are a perfect fit for our Championships and offer enhanced marketing and experiential platforms at events throughout Breeders’ Cup week.”

“Partnering with the Breeders’ Cup is a great fit for our brand given our namesake celebrates the unbridled spirit of wild horses that once roamed eastern Washington, and that sense of history and adventurous spirit are embodied in the Breeders’ Cup,” said Martin Johnson, Senior Vice President of Marketing at 14 Hands Winery. “We are excited to showcase 14 Hands’ universal appeal at this prestigious event, including our bold, fruit-forward reds and crisp, juicy whites.”

As part of this agreement, 14 Hands and the Breeders’ Cup will collaborate to develop media and entertainment programs designed to support this historic horse racing event on a local and national level. 14 Hands wines will be prominently served to the international guests attending the Breeders’ Cup at all officially sanctioned events on location at Santa Anita Park and in the surrounding areas.

About 14 Hands Winery

14 Hands wines are inspired by the spirit of the wild horses that once roamed the arid landscape of eastern Washington. It was here that these special horses – measuring a scant "14 hands" tall – developed their legendary endurance, strength, and tenacious spirit. Like these wild horses, the vineyards struggle in the same harsh conditions of eastern Washington. It is their ability to thrive in this environment that produces the world-class quality fruit that goes into each bottle of 14 Hands. Learn more at 14hands.com.
