2015 Mile

Recap

Tacking males and a few highly regarded distaff runners from European, Robert E. Masterson’s Tepin turned in a second straight stellar effort as she took charge in the stretch and easily fended off a late charge from Woobine Mile winner Mondialiste to register a 2 ¼-length victory in the $2 mile Breeders’ Cup Mile for jockey Julien Leparoux.

The victory by Tepin, the 9-2 third choice, marked the ninth time a filly or mare has won the BC Mile.

Grand Arch, who won the $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile earlier in the month at Keeneland, was third, a length and a half behind Mondialiste.

Of the European contingent of five runners who last raced overseas, Make Believe, the 5-2 favorite, and Esoterique, the 4-1 second choice, were fifth and seventh, respectively, while 2014 BC Mile winner Karakontie was 11th in the field of 12.
