Breeders’ Cup Announces Cocktails & Conversation Special Guest Tom Durkin for Thursday’s Broadcast
WHAT: “Cocktails & Conversation,” the weekly virtual happy hour series returns Thursday (April 8) with special guest Tom Durkin; hosted by Britney Eurton and Nick Luck of NBC Sports; and joined by renowned mixologist and creator of Breeders’ Cup’s official cocktails Mark Tubridy.
Durkin, one of Thoroughbred racing’s most acclaimed race callers, was the “Voice of the Breeders’ Cup” from its inception through 2005. With more than 40 years of race-calling experience, Durkin served as the race caller for NBC Sports from 1984 through 2010. He was the announcer for the New York Racing Association from 1990 until his retirement at the end of the Saratoga meet in 2014. In 2015, Durkin was awarded the Eclipse Award of Merit for a lifetime of achievement and service to the Thoroughbred industry.
This week’s cocktails highlight the spring weather. The two beverages are the Maker’s Mark Algonquin, a lighter bourbon-based sipper that is made with Maker’s Mark®, dry vermouth and pineapple juice, and the Penicillin, a tropical drink made with blended scotch, lemon juice, ginger-honey syrup and Islay single malt scotch.
In addition to the cocktail mixing segment, fans will be able to submit questions via social media for the hosts and Durkin to answer during the broadcast. Throughout the cocktail hour, viewers will be encouraged to donate to industry workers and communities in need through the official Breeders' Cup website.
All donations generated from Cocktails & Conversation are wholly donated to organizations benefitting the horse racing and hospitality industries, including the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, USBG National Charity Foundation and Restaurant Workers Relief Program.
WHEN: Thursday, April 8 at 6 p.m. ET
