Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) heroine Sharing makes her 2020 debut Saturday in the $100,000 Tepin Stakes at Churchill Downs over a mile on the grass.
Unraced since her courageous win in the Breeders’ Cup, Sharing is a 3-1 choice in a field of 14 with one also eligible on the outside. Graham Motion trains the daughter of Speightstown, who is out of another Breeders’ Cup winner in Shared Account, who took the 2010 Filly and Mare Turf over the Churchill Downs course.
Before the Breeders’ Cup, Sharing won the Selima Stakes at Laurel Park, and broke her maiden over seven furlongs at Saratoga. Manny Franco will be back aboard for this, her fifth lifetime start.
Main threat Alms, who is also 3-1, drew outside the large field. The Godolphin-owned daughter of City Zip broke her maiden sprinting at Belmont Park last fall before taking the Jimmy Durante (G3) at Del Mar in November. She annexed her 2020 debut in February at the Fair Grounds, winning over a mile on the grass for trainer Michael Stidham. Alms is in good form with a bullet work at Fair Hill on May 17.
Outburst (GB) is 5-1 on the morning line after winning the Florida Oaks (G3) by a head. The Eddie Kenneally-trainee by Breeders’ Cup winner Outstrip (GB) has been working at Keeneland of late and did have a May 17 move on the Churchill main track. Javier Castellano will ride.
Second behind Outburst in the Florida Oaks was Walk in Marrakesh (Ire), who is back for this as is Abscond, who beat Walk in Marrakesh by a nose in the Grade 1 Natalma at Woodbine last year. It was Walk In Marrakesh’s North American debut after racing in England and France. She was fifth in listed company at Gulfstream Park last out, whereas Abscond was most recently second in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride over 1 1/16-miles.
Oxum Power, Dominga, Hendy Woods, In good Spirits, Jezebel’s Kitten, Pass the Plate, Heir of Light, Moral Reasoning, and Queen of God complete the large field, with Eve of War the also eligible. You can bet all the weekend racing action, including races from Santa Anita, with TVG.
