Finalists for T-shirt Design Contest Announced
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 1, 2020) — The Breeders’ Cup, one of Thoroughbred horse racing’s most prestigious international events, today announces the five finalists for the Breeders’ Cup T-Shirt Design Contest, a philanthropic art competition that tasked entrants to create original artwork to be printed and sold in support of backstretch communities and other industry stakeholders affected by COVID-19.
Fans may browse the designs of the five finalists, which were selected from a pool of 93 submissions, and vote for their favorite by visiting BreedersCup.com/Contest between now and 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 7. During this period, each visitor may vote once per day. Fan votes will be considered by a judging panel to select a winner, who will receive two VIP tickets to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, scheduled to take place on November 6 and 7 at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky. The winning T-Shirt design will also be sold on-site and through BreedersCupShop.com leading up to and throughout the World Championships event, with all Breeders’ Cup proceeds going to Breeders’ Cup Charities, the organization’s official charity outreach program, for COVID-19 relief efforts.
"The wide range of imagination and talent this competition has generated is extremely gratifying," said Justin McDonald, Breeders’ Cup Senior Vice President of Marketing. "When we created the Breeders’ Cup T-Shirt Contest, we were looking to establish a platform to promote the creativity of our fans for a charitable cause. We want to thank all those that took the time to create and submit their entries, and we look forward to crowning the official contest winner with the help of our amazing fan community worldwide.”
The Breeders’ Cup T-Shirt Design Contest is part of the organization’s ongoing effort to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 on communities in need. Most recently, Breeders’ Cup unveiled branded face masks to support COVID-19 containment and raise funds for Breeders’ Cup Charities, while extending an opportunity for fans to showcase their support of the horse racing industry. On Mother’s Day (May 10), the Breeders’ Cup gifted working mothers at Santa Anita Park with gift baskets to express gratitude for their contributions to the sport. In April, Breeders’ Cup launched Cocktails & Conversation, a weekly virtual happy hour series created to raise donations for impacted backstretch communities. On May 28, the series aired its ninth installment, with additional episodes planned to follow thereafter. These fan-and community-facing programs build off direct donations made by Breeders’ Cup to provide funds and personal protective equipment to organizations and groups in need, including the Race Track Chaplaincy of America and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the battle against COVID-19.
