A relatively quiet weekend of racing will become heated when Imperial Hint and X Y Jet clash in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, December 21. The seven-furlong contest pits the two speedsters against four rivals, and goes as the tenth of an 11-race card. It can be viewed live on TVG.
Imperial Hint missed the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) after being scratched due to a hoof issue. He had won two grade 1 races in a row and was third in the Dubai Golden Shaheen earlier this year. The popular “Little Rocket” has won 14 of 23 starts and earned over $2.1 million, and scored in his only start over this surface. Javier Castellano will ride the son of Imperialism, who has had three bullet workouts since missing the Breeders’ Cup.
X Y Jet hasn’t started since defeating Imperial Hint in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1). The Jorge Navarro-trainee is Florida-based and has won seven of 14 starts on this course, with 12 top three finishes. He has won three of his last four starts, but has never won over this seven-furlong distance.
Lasting Legacy has won three in a row, including a stakes race at Monmouth Park for trainer Jason Servis. The lightly-raced five-year-old has won five of eight, and gets Irad Ortiz, Jr. for this. He has been freshened since his last race September 28, and will be making his first Florida start.
Diamond Oops is an interesting play in this race. He is four for five over the track, was second in a pair of grade 1 races this summer and fall, and exits the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) where he had a wide trip. Patrick Biancone trains the son of Lookin At Lucky, who will have Julien Leparoux aboard for this.
Zenden and Home Base round out the field. They are both coming off allowance victories, with Home Base scoring over the distance at Churchill Downs.
