Trainer Graham Motion took last year’s $175,000 Nassau Stakes (G2) at Woodbine Racetrack with Secret Message. The trainer has always had considerable success at Woodbine, and brings another shot in for this year’s Nassau with 9-5 Malakeh (GB).
Five-year-old Malakeh will break from post six in a seven-horse field. She is coming off two straight wins, including a May 22 allowance score at Churchill Downs over a mile, which is also the distance of the Nassau. The Harbour Watch (Ire) mare is three for five since coming to the United States from Germany, where she was a stakes winner as a maiden in 2018. She has won at Belmont and Saratoga and been placed at Keeneland. She has also never been worse than third at the distance. Kazushi Kimura has the call.
Local runner Amalfi Coast is the main threat. Kevin Attard trains the four-year-old daughter of Tapizar, who is a Grade 2 winner over seven furlongs. She has won four times at Woodbine including twice over the turf course; both of those were stakes events. The only concern is a sixth-place effort in her 2020 debut June 6, but she has a rough trip where she was continually steadied. Two of the horses who beat her that day, Another Time and Nantucket Red, are both back for this.
4-1 morning line is Elizabeth Way (Ire), who has already run four times this year since coming over from Ireland. Trainer Roger Attfield is based at Woodbine and finally gets the daughter of Frankel (GB) out over this course. She was a Grade 3 winner at Gulfstream Park in February, but ran 13th in the Mint Julep (G3) at Churchill Downs May 30. Emma Jayne Wilson gets aboard for the first time, and this filly is a contender if she is going the right way.
Another Time was the winner of the 7 1/2 -furlong local prep for this race on June 6. She defeated Nantucket Road and Amalfi Coast on that occasion, her second win in three starts. She is two for three at the distance for trainer Barbara Minshall, and will have Jerome Lermyte aboard.
Blinkers come off Nantucket Red, a daughter of Get Stormy trained by Ashlee Brnjas. She is winless in six tries at the distance on grass, but was a one-mile winner in allowance company at Presque Isle Downs in September. This is her second start of the year after being off since October 17.
Lunar Garden and Eyeinthesky round out the field. Watch and wager on Woodbine with TVG.

For good reason, much of the attention on the $4 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) will be on the international runners who come to Del Mar for the 12-furlong contest. In the last decade, just three winners have hailed from the United States, with the other seven coming from Europe. Since 2000, that split is 16 Europe, six for America.
