Cambria is one of three chances trainer Wesley Ward has to win the second running of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, in which he was second last year with Chelsea Cloisters, the best finisher of his three runners in 2018. Cambria is a homebred of Stonestreet Farm of Barbary Banke, whose Kendall-Jackson Winery is one of the most popular in the country and has helped lay the fiscal foundation of a world-class Stonestreet breeding program.
Cambria really has not done anything wrong in her career. Literally. She’s a perfect 3-for-3 , including maiden and allowance victories at Presque Isle Downs over its all-weather surface and then a sharp win in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Sept. 7. Her father is Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Speightstown and her mother is Saratoga track record-setting Grade 2 winner Teen Pauline.
Ward has a record of 2-5-7 from 37 Breeders’ Cup runners and has earned a check with a top-six performance in 23 of those runs. His two victories both came in 2014, in the Juvenile Turf (Hootenanny) and Filly & Mare Sprint (Judy the Beauty).
Stonestreet has yet to win when solely owning a horse from eight tries, including second-place finishers Valadorna (2016 Juvenile Fillies) and Rachel’s Valentina (2015 Juvenile Fillies). In partnership, it won the 2007 Classic with Curlin, 2011 Juvenile Fillies with My Miss Aurelia and 2017 Juvenile with Good Magic.

Not much is known much about the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, as this will be only its second running. A full field of 12 drew into the race for the second straight year, including four also eligibles, giving bettors plenty of options. The 5-furlong event will kick off the Breeders’ Cup action on Friday, November 1, as race five on the program with a purse of $1,000,000.
