A son of 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile(G1) winner Uncle Mo, Lipizzaner enters the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) in super form having won over very heavy ground at Doncaster Oct. 24 in the Listed Doncaster Stakes. That effort came just 13 days after finishing a solid second in the Anglesey Stakes (G3) at The Curragh and 28 days after running sixth in the Middle Park (G1).
A two-time winner from seven starts, he will be Uncle Mo’s 10th starter and looks to be his second Breeders’ Cup-winning progeny. Trained by 12-time Breeders’ Cup champ Aidan O’Brien and owned by Coolmore, Lipizzaner carries the orange and blue silks of Michael Tabor, who is no stranger to holding a Breeders’ Cup Trophy.
Lipizzaner seems to be racing himself into great shape, increasing his Timeform numbers with each of his past five efforts (going from 68 to 94) and once again turns back on quick rest—something that worked just fine at Doncaster. A big-boned, solid physical specimen, he continues to give his connections confidence.
His namesake is the world-famous breed of acrobatic, nearly white horses, Lipizzaners, who are named for the Lipizza Stud of the Habsburg monarchy and have their own school in Vienna, Austria.
