Bred and owned by the powerful Juddmonte Farms operation, Banks Hill earned championships in North America, England and France as a 3-year-old in 2001, highlighted by a powerful victory in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. Banks Hill triumphed by 5 ½ lengths in her only North American start of 2001 at Belmont Park, enough to earn her the Eclipse Award as top turf female. She was also named champion miler in England, having taken the Group 1 Coronation Stakes, and was voted champion at 9 ½ to 11 furlongs in France. In 2002, Banks Hill won the Group 1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard-Jacques Le Marois Stakes in France, beating Domedriver, who would go on to capture the Breeders’ Cup Mile that year. Banks Hill ran second, beaten 1 ½ lengths, in the 2002 Filly & Mare Turf.
