Seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Classic’s inaugural running in 1984, Precisionist cut back in distance in 1985 and wore down Smile by three-quarters of a length to give Hall of Fame rider Chris McCarron the first of his nine Breeders’ Cup victories and trainer Ross Fenstermaker his lone Breeders’ Cup triumph. Precisionist earned the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter of 1985. The Florida bred competed in four of the first five Breeders’ Cup Championships, finishing third in the 1986 Classic and seventh in the 1988 Sprint. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003, Precisionist won in his first start on July 13, 1983 at Hollywood Park to launch a career that featured 13 graded stakes victories with six of the triumphs in Grade 1 races. During his career, Precisionist won races at five tracks.
