When he grabbed the lead in the final strides to win the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs, War Chant extended a family tradition that began when his mother, Hollywood Wildcat, won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff in 1993 at Santa Anita Park. With a pair of graded stakes victories to his credit leading into the Mile, War Chant was the slight favorite in a field of well matched turf specialists and he lived up to his billing and fulfilled a dream for his owners Irving and Marjorie Cowan who also had campaigned Hollywood Wildcat. War Chant left racing after his Mile victory with five wins in seven starts and earnings of $1.1 million. With his royal bloodlines and classy race record, War Chant became a valued stallion know of siring quality runners like 2010 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Chamberlain Bridge.
