Broken Spell most recently posted a solid runner-up finish to Spring in the Air in the G1 Darley Alcibiades at Keeneland on October 5. With six starts under her belt, she’s the most experienced of the freshmen in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She broke her maiden in her fourth lifetime start at Saratoga, and was second by a neck in the P.G. Johnson Stakes on the turf next out. Her starts have been evenly split between turf and dirt. Broken Spell is trained by D. Wayne Lukas, the winningest trainer in the Breeders’ Cup series with 18 victories thus far, and over $20 million in Cup earnings. He’s saddled the winners of the Juvenile Fillies an amazing five times, winning in 1985 with Twilight Ridge, 1988 with Open Mind, 1994 with Flanders, 1999 with Cash Run and in 2005 with Folklore. The Broken Vow filly was a $85,000 yearling at Keeneland, and sold again for $175,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Selected Two-year-olds In Training Sale.
