Brazilian-bred Great Hot ran into traffic in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, and finished 11th. It was her trainer A.C. Avila’s first Breeders’ Cup starter. He too is a native of Brazil. Jessica Coudelaria’s homebred Great Hot won three of eight starts in the United States last year after being transferred from Brazil. Following her third-place effort in the G1 Lady's Secret Oct. 1, Avila shipped her to Keeneland three weeks later for the seven-furlong G2 Raven Run. There she nipped likely Breeders’ Cup favorite Groupie Doll by a head in a determined effort over Polytrack. Though winless in eight starts in 2012, Great Hot has run second three times, all in stakes company – in the G2 La Canada Stake at Santa Anita, the Bangles and Beads Stake at Fairplex, and most recently, a half-length loss to Rumor in the L.A. Woman Stake at Santa Anita.
