Despite his Kentucky-born status, Jimmy Creed calls California home. He headed west not long after turning heads with his glamour-boy looks and fancy pedigree at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale. The auctioneers coaxed the bidders to give $1-million, but no one accepted the challenge and he was hammered down at $900,000 by Spendthrift Farm. He quickly stamped himself as a potential star on the circuit when he led the way in his career debut before finishing a close second as the favorite in a full field. He easily won his next two starts then graduated to the stakes ranks. Jimmy Creed added a Grade 1 victory to his resume when he won the Malibu Stakes on Santa Anita’s traditional opening day program on December 26, 2012. A nagging cough kept him from racing for the rest of the winter but he rebounded with a victory in April. In his next start, a moment of bad luck curtailed his chances in the Triple Bend Handicap (G1) on June 29, 2013 at Hollywood Park. He left the starting gate in a bit of tangle and his trainer Richard Mandella later reported he lost a shoe in the accident likely caused by an assistant starter’s failure to release him in time for the start.
