Midnight Bisou may look like a delicate, refined filly, but she's has been nothing short of a beast this year, winning all five of her starts while posting screaming fast speed figures. Not that she wasn't incredibly good last year as a 3-year-old, boasting two Grade 1 wins, but she had to share the stage with Monomoy Girl, who went on to win the Eclipse Award in that division. Now closing in on $3 million in earnings, the daughter of two-time Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Midnight Lute, who cost her owners a mere $80,000 in the spring of her2-year-old year when she was purchased at the Ocala Breeders' In Training Sale, has never been worse than third, with 10 wins from her 16 starts. Currently ranked third in the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, Midnight Bisou secured her spot in this year’s Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff when she won her second Grade 1 of the year in the Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont in June. The race is a part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge “Win & You're In” series, guaranteeing the bay filly a second try in the Distaff. Last year, she was third behind her chief rival Monomoy Girl in the race at Churchill Downs. With a keen eye and ears always pricked, Midnight Bisou (French for kisses), is quite the professional on the track under regular rider Mike Smith. She has earned plenty of fans, including her trainer Steve Asmussen. "She's an extremely talented filly that has caught on to the idea of winning," he said. "Her confidence level is where you want it. She's been a dream. She's a true blessing. The connections, how she responds to Mike, it's a beautiful thing to be a part of.”
