Sky Lantern has never been worse than second in her young career that began on May 24, 2012 with an easy victory at Goodwood racecourse in England. Less than two weeks later, she remained undefeated by winning a stakes at Naas racecourse in Ireland. Promoted to Group 3 stakes events at Newmarket and Goodwood for her next two starts, Sky Lantern proved she belongs in the upper echelons by finishing as the close runner-ups on both occasions. She stamped herself as one of Europe’s best juvenile fillies when she cruised to a 2 ½-length victory in the Moyglare Stud (Ire-G1) at the Curragh against a dozen rivals on September 9. From her first five starts, Sky Lantern boasts a trio of victories and a pair of runner-up efforts. Sky Lantern was purchased by Ben Keswick from her breeder Tally-Ho Stud for $101,490 at the 2011 Goffs September yearling sale in Ireland.
