NEW YORK, July 11, 2012 – The 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships is returning to Los Angeles for its 29th anniversary and is proud to announce its partnership with Children Mending Hearts as the primary charitable beneficiary of this year’s event. Breeders’ Cup Charities was founded in 2008 as the official outreach program of the World Championships supporting a variety of important causes. The Breeders’ Cup aims to raise more than $75,000 throughout the week’s festivities for Children Mending Hearts.
Children Mending Hearts will participate in the weeklong series of events both on and off the track in a variety of ways. They include:
- Information locations on-site at Santa Anita for the charitable organization
- Involvement in Breeders’ Cup special events the week leading up to the Championships
- PSAs that will air during NBC’s live coverage of the event and the Breeders’ Cup Simulcast Show
- Special merchandise opportunities that will benefit the organization
- A Special Breeders’ Cup VIP Package including a special celebrity experience to be auctioned off on Charity Buzz leading up to the Championships
In addition to Children Mending Hearts, the Breeders’ Cup will raise funds and awareness this year for equine-related charities which it has supported since its inception in 1984.
“We couldn’t be happier to announce this partnership with such an outstanding foundation for the return of the Breeders' Cup to Southern California,” said Breeders’ Cup President and CEO Craig Fravel. “The work of Children Mending Hearts with underprivileged youth is remarkable, and we welcome them as a new part of the Breeders’ Cup family.”
Children Mending Hearts's founder Lysa Heslov said, "We are incredibly honored to participate with an organization so immensely respected and highly regarded as Breeders Cup."
The 29th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. Nov. 2 and 3, and will air on NBC and the NBC Sports Network in the first year of a new multi-year media rights partnership. The nine and a half hours of Breeders' Cup coverage includes the first-ever running of the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic in primetime on Saturday, November 3 at 8 p.m. ET. NBC was the previous home to the Breeders' Cup from its inception in 1984 through 2005.
The Breeders’ Cup plans to reach its $75,000 minimum goal through online donations, one of a kind auction items, merchandise programs and private donations from Breeders’ Cup constituents.
