Coming into the race off six consecutive Group wins in France, the Churchill Downs crowd was expecting an impressive effort from Arazi, but few anticipated just how impressive. Ninth after a half mile, about 12 lengths off the lead, Arazi electrified the racing world on both sides of the Atlantic when he rocketed around the turn, and won by five widening lengths. Some still consider it the most impressive single performance in Breeders' Cup history. Arazi was owned by aviation pioneer Allen Paulson, who sold a half interest in Arazi to Sheik Mohammed al Maktoum of Dubai just before the race. Arazi was the two year old champion in both North America and Europe, as well as European Horse of the Year. He disappointed as the odds-on favorite in the 1992 Kentucky Derby. He returned to the Breeders' Cup that year, placing seventh in the Mile. It turned out to be the final race of his career.
