Groupie Doll brought her career to a close in the Filly and Mare Sprint, going out a repeat winner. The 5-year-old mare shook off her third-place loss in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland by defeating Judy the Beauty, the winner of that race, by half a length at Santa Anita following an untroubled trip that put her in position to take the lead as the field approached the quarter pole. Judy the Beauty and Dance Card, who finished third, a length behind Groupie Doll, gave chase but could not catch the returning champion.
