Last at the half, and still seventh in the 14-horse field at the stretch, Hit It a Bomb found room to run and exploded late to win the $1 million Juvenile Turf by a neck over Airoforce, the 5-2 favorite. In a tight finish, Birchwood (IRE) ran third, a neck behind the runner-up.
Owned by Evelyn Stockwell, the War Front colt covered the one mile in 1:38.86, paying $16.40 to win.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien praised jockey Ryan Moore for Hit It a Bomb's trip. "Ryan gave him a marvelous ride," said O'Brien. "He said he was going to leave him relaxed the first part of the race and work it out from there."
