THE 1991 BREEDERS’ CUP
Churchill Downs
November 2, 1991
The second Breeders’ Cup to be held in Kentucky featured some brilliant performances by European horses, beginning with the day’s opening race, the Sprint, when Sheikh Albadou become the first foreign horse to win a Breeders’ Cup dirt race. In the Turf, the filly Miss Alleged, at odds of 42-1 thundered down the stretch to victory. But the most memorable run of the day was by the 2-year-old Arazi, who started slowly but passed 12 horses like they were standing still and cruised to a five length victory. Black Tie Affair capped off the day by winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic and secured the Horse of the Year title.
